The controller is one part of the entire control system and the whole system can be analysed by selecting the proper controller. They are ideal as they enable the technician to accurately control process temperature without extensive operator involvement.

When selecting a controller the following items should be considered

The type of input sensor (thermocouple, RTD) and temperature range
Type of output required (electromechanical relay, SSR, analogue output)
Control algorithm needed (on/off, proportional, PID)
Number and type of out puts (heat, cool, alarm. limit).
