POCKETS & THERMOWELLS

The use of pockets is recommended where the removal of a temperature probe without a pocket would require process shut down or drainage of the system. GNW's pockets are manufactured using tube with one end plugged and an appropriate thread or flange to suit the system welded to the other end. Our pockets offer economical but robust and long lasting protection sensors where the high pressures are not a consideration and can be left in place allowing the element to be replaced without having to shut down. All pockets are pressure and leak tested before despatch.

Thermowells are of a more robust construction being made from solid hexagon or round barstock, drilled and turned to suite the probe and application. For a thermowell with a weld in or threaded process connection, this will be turned from barstock. However, where a flange is required it would be welded in place after the initial machining.

Usually pockets and thermowells will have a welded collar or a machined thread to give a fixed immersion length, but where a variable immersion length is required or where the exact immersion length is not known at the time of manufacture, a compression fitting or an adjustable flange can be provided.

GNW can offer a Thermowells Fabricated from pipe or tube and also Solid drilled from Barstock or one piece forged material. In general, the Fabricated Thermowells is used in low-pressure applications, and the Solid drilled well in applications subjected to significantly large stresses such as high-pressure gas and high-speed fluids, with strictly selected shape, size and material fitting to the combined temperature element and operating conditions. Thermowells can be supplied in a variation of materials dependant on the service and duty required. Standard Thermowells material is 316L St/St but other grades such as 304,310 & 321 are available. Thermowells can also be supplied in more exotic alloys such as Hastelloy, Nickel, Monel, and Inconel. Etc. As well as Exotic alloys a Variety of coatings can be provided such as PTFE, FEP, Gore Fluroshield, Tantalum, Etc GNW Ltd offer full material certification and Full NDT Requirement such as PMI, Dye-Penetrant, Ultrasonic Etc We can also provide Stress and Frequency calculations to ensure that the Thermowells design meets required process conditions
